GBA 2018 Annual CLE

Please join the Greensboro Bar Association, in conjunction with Smith Moore Leatherwood, for our Annual CLE Seminar on February 15, 2018 at Starmount Country Club. Registration begins at 12:30 pm and the first program will start at 1:00 pm. The seminar will conclude with a cocktail reception beginning at 5:30 pm – just prior to the start of our regular monthly meeting at 6:15pm.

This year, we are fortunate to have the following exciting and comprehensive programs totaling 4 CLE hours of instruction:

Compassion Fatigue: The Price We Pay as Professional Problem Solvers
(
1 CLE Hour – Substance Abuse/Mental Health)

Lanée Borsman, North Carolina Lawyer Assistance Program

This program will assist attendees in gaining an understanding of compassion fatigue, specifically: (i) how it is defined; (ii) the associated signs and symptoms; (iii) factors contributing to it; and (iv) best practices for prevention and mitigation.

State Court Appeal Crash Course (2 CLE Hours – General)

Kip Nelson, Smith Moore Leatherwood

This program will focus on appellate practice and procedure. The speakers will discuss their experiences navigating the statutes, rules, and customs applicable to North Carolina appeals, as well as identify the pitfalls and traps presented by appeals in North Carolina, including the long- and short-term solutions currently under consideration.

Maintaining Professional Ethics in the Internet Age (1 CLE Hour – Ethics)

Nichole McLaughlin, Assistant Ethics Counsel for the North Carolina State Bar

This program with provide (i) an overview of law firm websites and include client testimonials and success stories, (ii) online reviews from clients and how attorneys should respond, (iii) a discussion on ethically appropriate ways to connect with people/potential clients on social media, and (iv) tips on how to advise clients in the use of social media.

 

 

Cost (with CLE credit): GBA Member – $75.00 ($90.00 after Feb. 9th)
Non-GBA Member – $90.00 ($110.00 after Feb. 9th)
