Swearing-In Ceremony & Bridge the Gap Scheduled for Oct. 13

If you are a newly licensed attorney, we strongly encourage you to participate in the 2017 Swearing-In Ceremony and Bridge the Gap Programs on Friday, October 13, 2017.  Bridge the Gap provides the new attorneys with a guided tour of various local landmarks in our legal community such as the Federal, State, and Bankruptcy Courts along with the District Attorneys Office and Clerk of Court.  A reception will follow at Churchill’s on Elm St.
If you are not a newly licensed attorney, please help us spread the word about these events and circulate the 2017 Swearing-In Application Packet to the new associates at your respective offices. This is an excellent networking event for everyone in GBA and YLS to meet the newest members of our local bar.  Come out and show your support for the new attorneys on Friday, October 13!

Habitat House 2017 Volunteers & Contributions Needed

Efforts to build our eighth Habitat for Humanity House are underway and we are asking for your support through financial contributions and volunteer hours. Please complete the 2017 Habitat Contribution Form the 2017 Habitat Volunteer Form now. We also offer the option of donating online at Habitat House Online Donations.  Although your payment can be made either this year or by February 28, 2017, we need to obtain donations and commitments as soon as possible.

Donations are tax deductible and can be made to the Greensboro Bar Association Foundation, Inc., marked for the Habitat for Humanity House.   You have the option of making a donation in honor of or in memory of persons you specify.

Please also complete and submit your volunteer form.  You do NOT need prior construction experience.  In fact, you may wish to sign up for an unfamiliar task in order to obtain a new skill.  In addition to volunteers for construction, we also need volunteers to help schedule work crews and volunteers to act as liaison with the homebuyer and their family.

We plan to begin construction on Saturday, April 1, 2017.  Typically we work on Saturdays and construction takes 18 weeks.  However, if there is sufficient interest (typically 18 or so volunteers for outside tasks or 8 to 10 for inside tasks), we can schedule workdays on Wednesdays or Thursdays in addition to Saturdays.  Please indicate on your volunteer form if you can work during the week.

Swearing-In & Bridge The Gap Oct. 14

Attention all newly licensed attorneys. The Young Lawyers Section of the Greensboro Bar Association is sponsoring a Swearing-In Ceremony for the admission of newly licensed attorneys to the state and federal courts on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room located on the second floor of the Old Courthouse (301 W. Market Street). This ceremony is also open to newly licensed attorneys (who have already been admitted to state and/or federal court) who simply want to participate in the ceremony and be introduced to the Greensboro Bar Association.

A reception serving complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, will be held in honor of all newly sworn-in attorneys immediately following the ceremony at Churchill’s on Elm.

In addition to the Swearing-In Ceremony and reception, the Young Lawyers Section of the Greensboro Bar Association has also organized an optional event on October 14th known as Bridge The Gap, which gives new attorneys in Guilford County an opportunity to become familiar with the local court systems by touring the Federal, State, and Bankruptcy Courts. This program starts at 9:00 a.m. on October 14th at the U.S. Federal Courthouse. Newly licensed attorneys are invited and encouraged to attend.

Click on 2016-17 Swearing-In Packet for the application and more information.

If you have any questions about the Swearing-In Ceremony, the reception, and/or Bridge The Gap, please contact Lisa Arthur, President of the Young Lawyers Section, at 336-378-5318 or Lisa Arthur.
