Juvenile Deliquency Contract Position in High Point

There is currently an opening for a juvenile defense contractor for High Point juvenile delinquency court.  The attorney would work alongside Tom Smothers, the other juvenile defense contractor.  Juvenile delinquency court meets in High Point on Tuesdays and sometimes Wednesdays.  The contractor may also engage in the private practice of law except in cases where there would be a conflict with a previous assignment arising out of the contract. The prospective contractor will be required to sign a contract with IDS, which will include terms such as attending juvenile defense training, complying with the Qualification Standards for Practice in Juvenile Delinquency Court in Guilford County, and providing IDS with timely monthly reports regarding cases closed.

The contract will begin February 2, 2015.  Historically, the caseload covered under this contract has averaged roughly 7-12 dispositions per month.  The monthly compensation under this agreement will be $2,833.33.

Professionalism Support Initiative

The Professionalism Support Initiative (herein after referred to as the PSI) is an informal voluntary local lawyer and judge assistance program that handles client-lawyer, lawyer-lawyer, and lawyer-judge issues.  The purpose of the PSI is to promote professionalism and thereby bolster public confidence in the legal profession.  PSI uses local volunteer peers to communicate privately and informally with lawyers and judges.   More information on the program can be found by downloading the Professionalism Support Initiative Program Description.
